Paul O'Neill, the old Yankee outfielder, continued claiming to be a "direct
descendant" of MT for many years, and the Yankees evidently agreed with him
for a long time.  For all I know, he still does:  there are still websites
touting him that way, like this one:

I think it turned out he was a distant relative, but I do not recall the
actual connection.

Also, I may have missed it in these threads, but of course there are the
recent claims of Susan Bailey as being the granddaughter of Clara, through
Nina.  This claim has been -- putting it mildly -- contested by Twain
scholars.
