I have long considered Hank as a trickster figure.  Among the many
supporting arguments for this is the uncontrolability of the outcome
when he uses his extraordinary, albeit imperfect knowledge, as in
the case of the eclipse.  With superhuman knowledge of the date of a
sixth century eclipse, he nearly loses his life because he lacks
the most common of information: today's date.

The trickster argument would Hank as disinterested in morality rather
lacking knowledge of good and evil.
