Many non-academic people as well as the academic in Japan have
attracted Mark Twain and his works since the Meiji period(1890's).
Most of them read his works through good traslation books.
This year two great translation books of Mark Twain were published.
One is _Mark Twain's Love Letters_(ed.Dixon Wecter) translated
by Nakagawa Keiko and Miyamoto Mitsuko, and the other is
Okubo Hiroshi's translation of _Huckleberry Finn_
(mainly besed on "Random House Edition"). Mr. Okubo has translated
many Twain's works; _No.44,The Mysterious Stranger_,
_Connecticut Yankee_, _Adam's Diary &Eve's Diary_, _Joan of Arc_
and so on.
By the way, in February this year I starated
"Mark Twain ML(mailing list) in Japan" for Twainian,
mainly for non-academic people.
Now it has about 40 members including some specialists.
