Howard Baetzhold wrote of Twain's original intentions for CY, but I
can't remember the title of Baetzhold's book. His premise, if I remember
correctly, was that Twain intended to stick to the King Arthur legends
more closely but his interest and slight involvement in British politics
steered him to use CY as a tool to condemn the English aristocracy. I
should be able to find the book title by later today.
