I am searching for any information available on Horace Bixby and others
from Mark Twain's days as a pilot. Specifically, I am looking for what
happened after the Mississippi was closed to commercial traffic at the
outbreak of the War of Northern Aggression in 1861. I do know that Bixby
went on to pilot a gunboat for the North but there is where my
information ends. Any and all pointers are appreciated.

Thank you.
