I hope this is not too much for the first of the year, but I came home from a
week's vacation to find an obituary for Philip S. Foner in the January 2,
1995 AB Bookman's Weekly. Author of "Mark Twain, Social Critic," Foner also
was responsible for the introduction of what has come to be known as
African-American studies.
Mr. Foner died December 13, 1994 in Philadelphia.
