I had a lengthy conversation this afternoon with Alex Ayres, writer of
_Wit and Wisdom of Mark Twain_. Ayres states that the text in his
book is taken from a recording he heard at the Smithsonian in Novemeber
1985 on the 100th Anniversary of Huck Finn and the 150th Anniversary of
Twain's birth. He states the recording was playing at an exhibition.

Ayres, who is closely associated with the entertainment industry in
California, stated he will attempt to locate further information
regarding the source of the information he used in his book.

Ayres was under the impression that the recordings he heard were
original and not Hal Holbrook.
