The Mark Twain Boyhood Home and other tourist attractions in Hannbal are OK
for now. Hannibal built a flood wall so these areas are protected. There
was some controversy there because the wall was only built to protect
the downtown, and areas north and south of the wall were flooded. They
weren't happy that extra money wasn't spent to extend the wall.

Update: The latest crest of the Mississippi at St. Louis occurred at 8PM
Tuesday (7/20) at 47.05 feet, 17.05 feet over flood stage. This exceeded
the record set Sunday by 0.15 feet. The readings Wednesday evening showed
47 feet even. We got more rain Tuesday night and again this morning
(Thursday.) According to National Weather Service hydrologists, assuming
average rainfall, the Mississippi at St. Louis will not recede to flood
stage
(30 feet) until August 18th.
