My impression is that Clemens' tastes were pretty eclectic -- for
goodness sake he enjoyed minstrel shows! I wouldn't get overwrought
about the awards.  They are named after him.  Not every recipient can
rise to his level of accomplishment and it is difficult to pick today
those who will have a lasting impact on society.  Clemens has certainly
had his ups and downs in the past hundred years.
