The author of “Fairest Picture – Mark Twain at Lake Tahoe” thanks reviewer
Arianne Laidlaw and the Mark Twain Forum for the thoughtful and concise book
review. This book occurs at the rare intersection of literature, history and
natural science, but there is unfinished business. The task remains for Mark
Twain scholars to use “Fairest Picture” as a database of factual information
to advance their literary analyses of Mark Twain’s works. We leave it to
interested Mark Twain Forum subscribers to reach their own conclusions on
the timber claim controversy by reading “Fairest Picture” and any future
works devoted to Mark Twain’s experiences in the Lake Tahoe region.
