“Puddin’ Head Wilson” ???? And I like the hostler reference, given Twain's own story of Joe Twichell and the profane hostler. I'm always tempted to read the Scotty Briggs story in Roughing It, and the Profane Hostler, as self-reflexive, wildly comic replayings of Twichell's difficulties in sometimes coping with his somewhat less genteel friend?
