A small booklet published by Cyril Clemens (International Mark Twain
Society) in 1949 titled _Mark Twain and Franklin D. Roosevelt_ gives an
account of a meeting between Cyril Clemens and FDR that Cyril footnotes took
place on December 8, 1933. In this booklet, Cyril relates FDR's conversation
about his indebtedness to Twain for his phrase "New Deal."

Cyril reprints a short note dated December 8, 1933 apparently from FDR to
Cyril Clemens but it does not contain the acknowledgement. However, the
December 8, 1933 date is correct for the personal meeting between the Cyril
Clemens and Roosevelt, and the booklet appears to reprint a personal
conversation.
