The preface to _Those Extraordinary Twins_ also provides an explanation of
how the "jackleg" novelist goes about the craft of writing, in order to
disabuse the reader of the assumption that all writers go about their
business as the experts do. It's an amusing account of how he revised his
conjoined twins farce into the ironic satire of _Pudd'nhead Wilson_.
