If memory serves, Charles Neider commented on the gay possibility in his
collection of her letters and "biography" of her father, Suzy. I think he
was rather tentative in his conclusions. I remember reading the letters and
thinking Neider might have taken 19th century vocabulary and behavior and
interpreted them with a 20th century mindset. But it's been over a decade
since I read it, so others may be more au current.
