It was there in 1972 when I first visited the home.  I think it was also
there the other times I visited, in the 80s, but I can't recall.

Contrary to how it is caricatured in The Adventures of Mark Twain, I
remember it as looking like as fairly reasonable machine, whatever that
means.  In others, it looked plausible given its intended function.
