"Dear Twain scholars,
I'm trying to find hard evidence that Twain either did or did not
read Stowe's Dred : A Tale of the Great Dismal Swamp (possibly under
its other title , Nina Gordon?) I have checked Alan Gribben, Mark
Twain's Library without finding any sign of it and all the obvious
reference books except Mark Twain A-Z (which is taking its time
getting to me in Newcastle.) If anyone has any suggestions I'd be
glad to receive them by e or snailmail or fax.

Professor Judie Newman"
