This is a wonderful, IMHO, short poem by SLC --

 First we laugh and laugh
 Then we cry and cry
 Then, feebler, laugh
 Then die.

T S Eliot might have been proud to have written it ! (Even as MT might
have enjoyed TSE's poems about cats....)
