In Chapter 20 of *The Adventures of Tom Sawyer*, Becky Thatcher sneaks a
look at the headmaster's hidden book, "Professor Somebody's *Anatomy*," as
the narrator calls it, which the school teacher locks away from his curious
pupils but this day left untypically unlocked, and Tom takes the punishment
she would have received by shouting that he tore it before Becky can answer
the headmaster's inquiry of each student in the class concerning the
unintended vandalism.
