Not being that familiar with the distinctions between the various Eastern
religions, the first thing that came to mind when this question was asked
was a letter SLC wrote to Howells on 4/2/1899 about how much he hated the
trip around the world tour that resulted in _Following the Equator_ ....
everything except India.  There are numerous chapters in _FTE_ on India
including discussion of the gods and religious practices.
