Thanks to Jim for putting this text online. I just wanted to comment on
what an impressive book _My Mark Twain_ is. I reread it a couple of years
ago while working on a paper about Twain and Howells' metaphors about
writing. It amazes me that Howells could write so perceptively, and so
soon after his close friend's death. This critical study really holds up,
and in my opinion ought not be overlooked just because it's so "old." I
know when I started out, I looked askance at some of the older studies as
being hopelessly dated, and many are. But not this one. I think it should
be cited more often than it is. Anyway, thanks to Jim, maybe more people
will discover it.
