Going Back to Mark Twain

After one hundred years under lock and key, Mark Twain's autobiography has finally been released. Granta is delighted to be publishing an extract in its new issue, 'Going Back.'

To celebrate this rare occasion Granta, in association with the U.S. Embassy and the English-Speaking Union, hosts an evening dedicated to Mark Twain, with a reading by the actor Kerry Shale, who recently incarnated this American great on BBC Radio 4's Nightwaves.

This will be followed by Robert McCrum, Bonnie Greer and guests in a fittingly spirited conversation on the father of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. Discussion moderated by Granta Editor John Freeman.

Thursday, July 15, 2010, 6.30 pm -- 8 pm.

English Speaking Union, Dartmouth House, 37 Charles Street, London, W1J 5ED.

Admission is free, but booking is essential.
