A friend has acquired a newspaper page which includes a short article
or perhaps letter to the editor signed Mark Twain. It discusses gold-
bearing springs, and mentions Calistoga Springs and Catgut Canyon. At the
top of the page is the following information: The Weekly Times, vol 1 no 35,
The Dalles, Wasco County, Oregon, December 21, 1880. My friend would like
to know if this article is likely to have been in fact written by Twain. If
so, how did he happen to be writing to or for this paper? Please reply to
me at the email address below. Thanks for any help you can provide.
