Mark Twain did pen at least one scathing remark about the nation's
transition from the 19th to the 20th century: "A Salutation-Speech from
the Nineteenth Century to the Twentieth, Taken Down in Short-Hand>' Among
other places, this can be found in Lou Budd's _Collected Takes, Sketches,
Speeches, & Essays (1891-1910)_. I suspect that this will be quoted often
in the next couple of months.
