The Associated Press has a feature story on the wires about Mark Twain
letters. The story that I saw in Thursday's St. Louis Post Dispatch had
a photo of Bob Hirst and great interviews with him, Kevin MacDonnell and
Robert Slotta. A theme of the story is about the prices the letters
bring. I know that some folks poopoo the collectors market, but my
experience is that stories like this tend to flush things out of the
woodwork. I have been very pleasantly surprised by the number of people
who call me whenever there is anything in the local press. I have been
tipped to some wonderful material in this fashion. Hopefully this story
will bring some new information to light. Thanks to Mr. Hirst, Mr.
MacDonnell and Mr. Slotta for sharing their expertise. Look for the
article in your regional presses. Maybe you will get the call about an
important new letter!
