The unpublished excerpt of Twain's manuscript that appears in the
New York Times this morning was originally intended for the New York
Tribune. I mistakenly alerted Kevin that the article was originally
headed for the NY Herald.

According to _Mark Twain's Letters, Vol. 3_, p. 698 the article was
titled:

"The White House Funeral."  Written on 7 March [1869] for the
New York Tribune, but never published.  One sheet of Tribune galley
proof, CU-MARK.

Does anyone remember seeing the complete text of the article printed
elsewhere?  Or any ideas of why the Tribune failed to run it?
