Here are some links to new Twain materials available on the web.
Most URLs wrap to two lines and these will have to be put together as
one line for your web browser.

Articles in the _San Francisco Examiner_:

And Here the Twain Fans Shall Meet (July 12)
http://www.sfgate.com:80/cgi-bin/examiner/article.cgi?year=1997&month=
07&day=12&article=NEWS2035.dtl
This and the next article are on an auction of 120 books from Twain's
personal library.

Twain Relics Return to Connecticut Home (July 17)
http://www.sfgate.com:80/cgi-bin/examiner/article.cgi?year=1997&month=
07&day=17&article=NEWS1525.dtl

Go Electronic to Speed Scholarship on Mark Twain Papers (July 20)
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/examiner/article.cgi?year=1997&month=07
& day=20&article=EDITORIAL2279.dtl
Letter to the Editor that suggests putting the Mark Twain Papers
online in digital form instead of raising $400,000 a year to keep the
Mark Twain Project's traditional publications program going.

At the Mark Twain site at The Mining Company:

Mark Twain on Book Banning (July 15)
http://marktwain.miningco.com/library/weekly/aa071597.htm
A short article with links to online texts with Twain's comments
on the banning of _Huckleberry Finn_ and _Eve's Diary_.

Mark Twain Biography on the Web (July 22)
http://marktwain.miningco.com/library/weekly/aa072297.htm
Some suggestions for finding biographical materials in diverse sites
that do not have a primarily biographical focus.

Chapters from _Mark Twain: A Biography_
http://marktwain.miningco.com/library/biography/bl_paine_bio_chapters.
htm
This is a contents page that currently links to the first 18 chapters
and a much later chapter on the Gorky scandal of 1906. Additional
chapters will be added over time.

Internet Campaign for the Mark Twain Project (July 29)
http://marktwain.miningco.com/library/weekly/aa072997.htm
An article on the financial crisis at the Project that follows up on
the math in Vic Doyno's article in the Mark Twain Circular -- if
visitors to this web site in one week (about 3,500 of them) donate
$40 each the $135,000 needed immediately will be covered; over 12
weeks they can cover an entire year's budget with less than $10
each (I have no idea how many will make donations but figured it was
worth a try). Also includes links to the Forum's TwainWeb Bookstore
(http://web.mit.edu/linguistics/www/forum/bookstore/amazon1.html) and
Mark Twain T-Shirts
(http://web.mit.edu/linguistics/www/forum/gifs/mtpshirt.html) pages
(proceeds from both go to MTP) and Barbara Schmidt's page which
links to the _San Francisco Examiner_ editorial asking for donations.
