Some of you may be curious to know what happened to the late great Nick
Karanovich's wonderful Mark Twain collection. The following is probably of
interest to Twainians: I purchased the larger portion of Nick's collection
that was not sent to Sotheby's for auction (I also bought about 20% of what
was sold at Sotheby's last June).

My personal collection numbers over 3,200 items (many single "items" in this
count are archives of photos or letters numbering from a dozen pieces to a
few hundred, that I count as single "items"). Sotheby's sold about 700
pieces (in 248 lots) and the remainder that I bought from Nick's estate
filled 230 banker boxes (a little over 6,000 lbs). I kept about 300 items
for my own collection, and the bulk of the better material has been sold
privately or from the 700 item catalogue I issued late last year. But I
still have 30-40 boxes of rather mundane material to unpack, some of which
will be sold, and some that eventually will be donated to libraries. If you
have SPECIFIC needs for yourself or an affiliated library, do let me know
(at my new email address!).

Thanks,
