In order to perform server maintenance and software upgrades, there will 
be several brief interruptions in York's DNS and DHCP services on Thursday 
May 1st, 6:00am-7:30am.

The DNS servers are used by internet applications to convert host names to 
network IP addresses.  DHCP servers are used to assign IP addresses to 
specific computers at York.

Users who have correctly configured their computers with the IP addresses 
of three DNS servers will likely experience small delays on all internet 
connections during the server outage.  Users who have configured their 
computers with only one DNS server will likely suffer a complete outage on 
all internet connections.

DHCP users (ex: campus computer labs, residence network users), will 
notice a delay of several minutes getting an IP address from the DHCP 
servers and may lose connectivity during this outage.  Any machines turned 
on before the outage and assigned IP addresses by the DHCP servers prior 
to the outage will not be affected.
