Subject: New procedure to send emails to York and non-York addresses
when using a non-York Internet Service Provider (ISP)

**** PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY****

To accommodate our many clients who are switching to external
Internet Service Providers such as Rogers and Sympatico,
Computing and Network Services has modified York's SMTP
outgoing mail server, mailrelay.yorku.ca, to create an easier
and consistent procedure for sending email between York and
non-York email addresses.

This change will enable a seamless mail exchange for people not using
email clients such as https://webmail.yorku.ca, Unix Pine, Lotus Notes,
First Class or VPN.

The new procedure will only work with email clients that allow SMTP
authentication. Please follow the setup instructions at:
http://www.cns.yorku.ca/computing/email/SMTP_setup/index.html

Please note that some Internet Service Providers will not allow you to
send through their system, and you will have to continue using their
SMTP outgoing mail server.
