CCS Network Operations has identified an unreliable component in the
CCS Machine Room subnet.  This component is a 12 Ethernet plus 1 FDDI
port bridge that is used to provide connectivity to systems connected
to the machine-room subnet (130.63.236.x).  On several occasions over
the past week this bridge has crashed and disrupted the regular flow
of traffic on this subnet.  This has resulted in intermittent service
outages to the e-mail server complex, the Phoenix cluster, SOL, ORION,
VM1, VM2 and other machine-room based services.

In an effort to stabilize the situation, Network Operations will be
replacing the existing bridge with an entirely different model that
has already proven itself in the York University Network.  The repair
work will be undertaken between Saturday October 28, 23:00 and Sunday
October 29, 06:00.  During this interval access to those services
which are connected to the CCS Machine Room subnet will be disrupted.
This includes the following systems:
