Dear All, Please forward this posting to your respective Canadian medical schools. Medical students in their final year are eligible to apply for this great opportunity in Kampala, Uganda. Sincerely, Raj Grewal Co-President Student University Network for Social and International Health (SUNSIH / REUSSI) -------------------------------------------------------------------- CANADIAN NETWORK FOR INTERNATIONAL SURGERY INJURY CONTROL AWARD -------------------------------------------------------------------- The Canadian Network for International Surgery is a Canadian non-governmental organisation (NGO) formed in 1995. Its goal is to facilitate, promote, and sustain the health of people in developing countries through increased access to essential surgery available though regional doctors and health workers. Current projects include (among others) the operation of the Injury Control Centre - Uganda (ICCU). The newly-established Centre is based at Makerere University's New Mulago Hospital in Kampala. Research aims of the Centre span clinical, epidemiological, and public health-related areas, including measurement of trauma incidence and severity in the local population, establishment and assessment of preventative measures, and safety education among others. The award will be given annually to a Canadian medical student who wishes to undertake research at the ICCU. Research projects will be developed jointly by the student and Centre investigators, or students can work on ongoing projects already underway. Applicants should be in their final year of medical school and a minimum of 8 weeks elective time is preferred, although a shorter time can be considered. The award consists of 1000$CDN for personal expenses and a research grant of 500$CDN. The (flexible) application deadline is April 30, 2000. Please email me or visit our website at http://www.web.net/~cnis if this is of interest to you. Thanks!
