>>> [log in to unmask] 04/02/01 12:22PM >>> As for _Mysterious Stranger_, does anybody teach that anymore in a Twain class? What does one teach for the later mood? For a 20th Century American Lit survey class, I just taught Twain this semester with Extracts from Adam's Diary (92/03), Chapter One of Extracts from Captain Stormfield's Visit to Heaven(07) and The War Prayer (04). I wish I could teach _Stranger_, but which version to use? I wouldn't want to use the "Paine-Duneka" edition anymore, though it sure is cheap in the Dover Thrift Edition. Is there even a student edition in print of any of the manuscript versions available out there, "The Chronicle of Young Satan" or "No. 44, The Mysterious Stranger" ? I don't know.
