----------------- HES POSTING ----------------- I received the following inquiry from the Eh.Net ASK THE PROF service: Today economics is mostly divided into two main categories: microeconomics and macroeconomics; it wasnt like that in the past and so it is very difficult to understand material from (or about) those periods. I would like to know the modern equivalent of the terms used in the past to name the diferent branches of economic science; for instance, I think that "pure economy" corresponded pretty much to today's microeconomics, or was it "value theory"? Other cases would be "Business Cycle theory", "Monetary theory", "Capital theory", "Dynamic economics", "Wages theory", "Exchange theory", and any others you can think of.
