Richard Attenborough did the film Shadowlands about C. S. Lewis and the grief at the end of his life when Joy died. That film (which I just saw again last week!) is very good but quite wrong about a number of things concerning Lewis. Also it received a lot of criticism about Lewis's religious and moral crisis and the failure to see growth or resolution--which Lewis did experience. It also failed to show almost anything about the profoundly religious aspects of Lewis and Joy's relationship. I am saying all this to suggest that I have some real qualms about such a project with Willimas and Attenborough teaming up to do a filmic treatment of the later years, tinged no doubt with Freud. YIKES! if anything is in the pipeline I hope they will consult a few experts on the topic who might add a little balance to the discussion. Hal Bush Saint Louis University
