----------------- HES POSTING ----------------- You might want to check out Krishna Bharadwaj's article "Adam Smith's Political Economy" in her THEMES IN VALUE AND DISTRIBUTION (Unwin Hyman, 1989). It includes a section on Marx on Smith, but even some of the other sections contain discussion relevant to your interests. The Scottish School of Modern Political Economy (is there a name for this group?) are also worth checking out. I'm referring to A. L. Macfie (e.g., THE INDIVIDUAL IN SOCIETY), R. L. Meek (e.g., SMITH, MARX, AND AFTER; STUDIES IN THE LABOUR THEORY OF VALUE), D. D. Raphael, A. Skinner. Different combos of these authors wrote introductory essays to their editions of various volumes of Smith's work (e.g., LECTURES ON JURISPRUDENCE, WN, TMS). The Smith 200th anniversary edited collections ESSAYS ON ADAM SMITH (1975) and THE MARKET AND THE STATE (1976) include some possibly relevant chapters (e.g., those by Lowe, Heilbroner, Eltis, et al.). Have fun. Mathew Forstater ------------ FOOTER TO HES POSTING ------------ For information, send the message "info HES" to [log in to unmask]
