I checked the Oxford English Dictionary - they not only define the word
"orality" but trace it back to 1666:

    1. The quality of being oral, or orally communicated. Also, preference
for or tendency to use spoken forms of language.

In the immortal words of the rock group Chumbawamba, "there's nothing that's
