----------------- HES POSTING ----------------- One obvious starting point would be "The Historical Roots of the Concept of Human Capital" by B.F. Kiker in Journal of Political Economy, Oct. 1966. This only devotes a paragraph or two to Adam Smith but provides much broader context. There is also Mark Blaug, "The Economics of Education in English Classical Political Economy: A Re-examination" in Essays on Adam Smith edited by Andrew Skinner and Thomas Wilson, Oxford: 1975. As I recall and as to be expected given the edited volume it appears in, gives much fuller treatment to Smith.
