----------------- HES POSTING ----------------- Further to Ross's posting, one might also (and with some profit) consult the essays in HISTORIANS OF ECONOMICS AND ECONOMIC THOUGHT: THE CONTSTRUCTION OF DISCIPLINARY MEMORY, which includes essay by leading historians of economics/economic thought on others working in the field. One gets a nice sense for the various historiographic methods employed by the subjects of the essays and the contributions that the use of those approaches can make to our understanding. Again, in the spirit of Emmett, the fact that I am a co-editor (with Samuels) of the volume should not be considered a reason to avoid it; after all, it is an edited collection!
