To all Mark Twain Forum members, It is with sadness that I pass along this news. The Mark Twain Forum received a message from Larry Marshburne's daughter, Laura, to let us know that Larry passed away last week at the age of 53. Larry was a long-time member of the Mark Twain Forum and a frequent contributor to discussions here. He also served as a TwainWeb editor, converting text to HTML when Taylor Roberts established the Forum's web site. In addition, he delivered papers on Twain at the 1998 Undergraduate Conference in the Humanities at Shaw University, the North Carolina State University Undergraduate Symposium and the American Literature Association convention in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1999. His article “The NAACP and Mark Twain” appeared in the _Mark Twain Journal_ 36.1 (Spring 1998): 2. Larry's scholarly interest in Mark Twain was reflected in his participation at many Mark Twain conferences. He was so dedicated that he drove all night from his home in North Carolina to attend Hartford conferences that began at 8:00 a.m. Laura Marshburne, writes: "I know how much my father loved Mark Twain and loved spending time talking about Mark Twain. I'm glad that he was part of such an active group that I am certain brought him tons of pleasure." Larry's contributions to the Mark Twain Forum and his friendship will be missed by all who knew him.
