Wilhelm Launhardt (1832-1918) belongs to this group. He was Professor for roads, raylways and bridges and then Rektor at the Hanover Polytechnical Academy. He was well known in Germany as an expert of transportation networks, whose issues he treated from both the economic and the engineering viewpoints.
