This thing about the clinking of coins somehow keeps turning up.  
Thirty years ago a Dutch novelist had written a story about a Chinese  
judge who was very wise and, after a claim by a restaurant owner,  
sentenced the neighbour of the restaurant owner to rock his money in  
his hands for the sound as a payment for the nice odours he smelled. 
I believe his stories do come from pretty ancient stories in China.
