He did a similar thing in that story "A Trip to Niagara" where the "Indian"
sitting in front of a Native crafts shop speaks in broad Irish brogue. The
choice of language, typology, and even the type of jokes probably had more
to do with the popularity of comical stage Irish at the time than with a
genuine disposition on Twain's side.
