Position Description Assistant Professor of American Literature. The English Department at Virginia Tech seeks applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professorship in American literature and culture, with a secondary interest in Ethnic American Literatures and cultures. This position is dependent upon final budget approval. Required: Applicants must have a solid background in American Literature, show evidence of successful teaching, and demonstrate the promise of significant scholarly research. Completion of the Ph.D. in English is required before the date of the appointment. Preferred: A secondary interest in one or more American ethnic literatures (e.g. Latino/a, Asian, Caribbean). Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, establishing a solid research program, and serving on departmental, college, and university committees. The Department also has flourishing undergraduate programs in Literature, Language, and Culture; Creative Writing; and Professional Writing. It is currently developing a new track in Ethnic American Literatures which will draw on courses from other disciplines, including Foreign Languages & Literatures.
