The ProQuest searchable historic newspaper databases (which includes searchable texts of Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Chicago Daily Tribune, and Washington Post) returns 194 hits for a search on Albion W. Tourgee. Some of these articles include texts of Tourgee's speeches and lectures. One article mentions his daughter's close friendship with the daughter of George W. Cable. As to his religious ties, one article written shortly after his death states: "In 1881, with others he started Our Continent, a weekly magazine, and he continued as its editor until 1884, when it was absorbed by the Christian at Work, to which journal Mr. Tourgee went to take charge of one of the departments." (Boston Daily Globe, May 22, 1905), p. 7. I find no articles in this database which put Tourgee and Twain together in the same room. Barb
