The Whittier Speech is probably in the Library of America _Collected Tales,
Sketches, Speeches & Essays_, edited by Louis Budd. Contrary to what is
suggested in Kathy O'Connell's query, the Whittier to which the speech
refers is not Whittier, CA, but John Greenleaf Whittier, whose birthday was
the occasion for Twain's ill-fated speech. And by the way, Nixon attended
Whittier College, but he was born in Yorba Linda, CA, the site of both the
boyhood home and the Nixon library.
