beyond prevention, and in addition to the need for adequate money to purchase proper foods, the money to purchase and use proper monitoring devices is also an issue
here in Ontario, testing strips and lancets are pretty expensive items to purchase as a whole - particuarly the testing strips. Even if people have private insurance coverage ($$$$) these items are not necessarily covered. If people cannot afford the foods and monitoring system, then how can they control their type 2 and prevent further damage. The same goes for medications that might be prescribed for other complications - such as cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc. If people do not have heath insurance then they would have to pay the full price of these items, which are expensive enough even with insurance that requires contribution of part of the cost. Seems to me the health care system is amputating its own foot, as well, when it advocates for use of things, but they are not available due to financial costs and limited incomes.
Although seniors get their monitoring strips, they still have to pay for lancets. For people on limited incomes, even this can be something unaffordable.
