Sam left Paris, France on May 10, and arrived in NYC about this day. He gave
a reading on the Steamship *New York* on May 17 for the American Seaman's
Friend Society, text unknown (Brooklyn Eagle, May?18)?On May 19th he wrote
Frank Mayo from NYC. This is all preliminary in my volume 2 of *Mark Twain
Day By Day*, but it looks like May 18 was the date of his arrival.
