OFFICER PUBLIC PROGRAMS & SERVICES / ADVOCACY


OVERVIEW:
The Officer Public Programs and Services / Advocacy is responsible for overseeing and managing the Ontario Monitoring for Health Program, and, is responsible for training and support of Public Programs and Services staff in Ontario with respect to advocacy-related matters. The Officer works collaboratively on the advocacy components of Public Programs and Services initiatives in Ontario, works with and supports Executive Director in Ontario with government relations and advocacy campaigns, and supports individual advocacy in the province.


Responsibilities:
  • - Supervise the Monitoring for Health Database Coordinator, providing guidance and support
  • - Prepare annual budget and Service plan for the Ontario Ministry of Health and ensure reporting and development of program continues throughout the fiscal year
  • - Provide support to the Ontario Area Directors through assistance with the development of provincial advocacy campaign materials
  • - Support the Area in the development and implementation of regional advocacy campaigns (both provincial and national)
  • - Is the point person within Ontario for advocacy-related matters and to provide support and assistance to the Public Programs and Services coordinators in their efforts to address local advocacy questions. The incumbent will liaise with the National advocacy staff and the call centre staff to ensure our constituents receive the best possible advocacy service.
  • - To develop training and presentation materials specific to advocacy matters for use by Ontario Public Programs and Services staff.


  • Qualifications:
  • - Post Secondary education or comparable experience desired
  • - Experience in a non-profit environment
  • - Experience in government relations and advocacy
  • - Experience in program and service delivery
  • - Adept in issue resolution techniques
  • - Customer service orientation
  • - Superior organizational skills
  • - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • - Demonstrated knowledge of diversity and working within an anti oppression framework
  • - Proficiency in MS Office software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
