Thanks SB Position Title: New Student Advisor (5 Positions) Hours Per Week: 35 hours per week to a maximum of 595 hours in total over the summer Start Date: Late April/Early May to Late August Wage: $12 per hour Details: Under the direction of the Manager, Student Services New Student Advisors will have the following duties and responsibilities: New student advising includes: presenting and interpreting complex academic, Faculty and University information for both large and small new student group audiences acting as an ambassador for the Faculty of Health and for York University welcoming all new students (parents, family members) to the Faculty of Health fostering a climate of mutual trust, respect, support and encouragement in the new student enrolment appointment working to ensure new student understanding of complex academic information -- including first year course selection, prerequisite checking, course loads, time-tabling, and the importance of preserving and prioritizing study-time in the context of individual outside responsibilities (part-time work, family responsibilities, etc.) encouraging engagement in University life while ensuring the prioritization of academic work and new student responsibility for academic choices as new students begin their studies in the Faculty of Health participating in all aspects of the new student enrollment appointment (including understanding and relaying information concerning student responsibility for maintaining academic honesty and integrity) assisting all new students with course selection, enrollment and registration procedures sharing positive student life experiences at York University (including clubs and association participation) with all new students (including transfer students and mature students) Other responsibilities include: appointment booking using a variety of technologies (SIS. Web-based technologies) front desk coverage in the absence of full-time staff appointment confirmation or follow-up (via telephone; a pleasant and clear telephone manner is required) other administrative tasks as assigned (may include data entry, word processing, research and administrative/clerical responsibilities) Students must be work-study eligible and able to commit to working with us for the entire summer http://www.yorku.ca/osfs/wrkstdy.shtml Students must have completed 2 or more years of study at York University and must demonstrate a general understanding of Faculty of Health programs with capacity to learn and present academic requirements for a variety of programs (BA, BSc, BHS, BScN) to a new student audience. Students must demonstrate ability to work individually as well as a member of a multi-functional team. Adaptability, flexibility as well as ability to respond to changing and competing priorities in a dynamic and multi-functional student services unit are required. Position Title: Petitions and Special Projects Assistant (1 Position) Hours Per Week: 35 hours per week to a maximum of 595 hours in total over the summer Start Date: Late April/Early May to Late August Wage: $12 per hour Details: Under the direction of the Coordinator, Academic Standards, the Petitions and Special Projects Assistant will have the following duties and responsibilities: Under the direction of the Coordinator, Academic Standards, assumes a lead role in the implementation of a comprehensive records classification system and common records schedule project (in paper and electronic form) for a multi-function office. Provides administrative and clerical support to the Coordinator, Student Academic Petitions. Petitions-related administrative support will include: confidential file maintenance electronically and in hardcopy handling confidential and sensitive information confidential file delivery and retrieval from various University offices assisting the coordinator with meeting organization including set up and take down Provides administrative support to a variety of special project initiatives. Special projects will include the development of publications, posters, hand-outs and brochures for a student audience. May be required to assist with appointment booking and front desk coverage in peak periods as required. Administrative tasks as assigned.
