Folks; any suggestions about essays or books that analyze MT stories or
novels as manifestations of certain ideas about southern literature?

In fact, what is southern lit. these days?? With the so-called "New Southern
Studies," most of the old categories have been questioned and deconstructed.

I just want some good, recent discussion of Twain as a southern writer --
ideas?

I know a lot of the older standards, such as MT and the South by Arthur
Pettit, a book I still greatly admire -- just looking for what LIST-members
have found most influential in their ideas of MT as a southern writer.
